The 10 Funniest Movie Scenes of All Time

10 Funniest Movie Scenes

We all could use a good laugh these days. I always look forward to having one. Sometimes I can make myself laugh thinking about some hilarious moments in my life.

Thinking about various scenes in movies also makes me laugh. I already listed the funniest movies of all time, but now I want to share the individual moments in comedies that stand out above the others.

I do not own the content linked to YouTube. Some of the following scenes contain foul language and inappropriate behavior. Watch at your own risk.

Duck Soup (1933)

I have always loved the mirror scene. It is commonly spoofed because it is well-timed and hilarious! I recently watched “I Love Lucy” and one of my favorite moments was where Lucy met Harpo Marx. They performed the same routine, and it never gets old!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

There are many hilarious scenes in this film, and it was hard to choose only one. I considered the witch scene because it has my favorite quote from the film:

“She turned me into a newt.” “A newt?” “…I got better.”

However, I took the time to memorize the scene when the King of Swamp Castle tasks the inept guards to keep an eye on his son. Though sometimes a simple instruction can take a few minutes to comprehend. I also love how this is in one unbroken take.

National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978)

I do not condone animal cruelty in any way, shape, or form. However, the scene where Bluto and D-Day’s prank on Flounder goes wrong makes me laugh every time! I also love how they run out of the dean’s office.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987)

You can never go wrong with this scene. Neil (Steve Martin) and Del (John Candy) go through many pitfalls while trying to get home for Thanksgiving. It would not be funny to those experiencing them. However, the scenes play out so hilariously that we can’t help but laugh. The highway scene with the two oncoming trucks will always be the best in the film.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)

Every time I watch this scene, I laugh so hard I cry. It is crude and childish, but that’s what The Naked Gun movies are all about!

This scene may only be available on YouTube.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

Chevy Chase losing his cool over not receiving a thoughtful Christmas bonus is pure comedic gold! I am sure that many of those who have terrible bosses would relate to this scene.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

The Home Alone movies are classics. They offer so many laughs and are full of heart. The booby traps are always the best parts, mainly because of Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern’s reactions. The best one is where Marv (Stern) unwittingly electrocutes himself and screams. I almost have to pause this scene every time I watch it to catch my breath. I once read that director Chris Columbus couldn’t keep a straight face while directing this scene.

Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

I still miss Robin Williams. His genius is far from forgotten, and I still treasure his comedy classics. Mrs. Doubtfire will remain one of his best. The scene with the prank calls with different voices is always a delight!

Dumb and Dumber (1994)

There are so many funny scenes in this film, and it is another hard one to single out. I considered the scenes with Harry (Jeff Daniels) on the toilet, the motorcycle cop, and the moped crossing the Rocky Mountains. However, the moment where Lloyd (Jim Carrey) keeps a secret pair of gloves from Harry has to be the best one. I love the subtlety of it, plus Harry’s reaction.

The Big Lebowski (1998)

Every scene in this film is hilarious, and I still consider it the funniest of all time. It’s hard to watch this film without laughing every two minutes. I almost cry while laughing during the Corvette scene. I would have felt bad for the neighbor, but maybe he should have parked his expensive car in front of his own house.

Happy watching!

  1. The Funniest Men in Movie History - Ryan's Movie Corner

[…] Belushi is the standout of the film, even though he only appeared in it sporadically. I believe Belushi’s commitments to Saturday Night Live may have caused this. Bluto had many great one-liners, such as “Toga! Toga!” when the idea of the toga party was mentioned. I also loved the moment where he was responsible for the prank gone wrong involving a horse. […]
